I was introduced to photography by my uncle, who gave me a copy of The Americans by Robert Frank. I became entranced by image-makers and street photography, and that passion led me to study film and photography at the University of Wisconsin.

After college, I was hired by a company that supplied motion-picture equipment for films and commercials. Through that work, I built strong relationships with professionals throughout the film industry, which eventually led to my first motion picture.

I began as a film loader on Andy Davis’s Chain Reaction, starring Morgan Freeman and Keanu Reeves. From there, I worked my way through every position in the camera department across numerous films and commercials, learning from many legends in the business.

I see photography and motion pictures as siblings. Starting with photography gave me the foundation to understand composition, lighting, and patience.

Over time, I developed a distinct visual style that continues to define my work as a cinematographer and visual artist.
